Emotional setting

In the story Of Mice And Men  the setting was in the 1930s. George and Lennie arrives on a ranch to earn money so that they can buy their own plot of land. The main setting is on the ranch that they work on and their worker dorms. From what we have read for class all the scenes take place in the dorms. It seems to be where all the action takes place after their long day of work. The surrounding of the ranch as I imagine it is empty can dry, but i could be wrong since the books doesn't really describe the surroundings. On the other hand there is the emotional setting which is a lot of the time friendly. When ever George and Lennie are together they seem to be happy and when ever they talk about their dream land the mood gets all excited and energetic. Then when ever Curley enters the scene the moods is toned down, darker, a sense of danger, and even anger. Curley is always looking for trouble and therefore he brings about him a bad atmosphere, and something bad always happens when he's around. Also with Curley's wife she brings a dreamy element when viewing it from Lennie's point of view, but to the other works a hostile tone. She brings about a hostility to other because she always gets other in trouble with Curley.
